A recent study of UK data showed that both Pfizer and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines maintain high levels of effectiveness against the Delta variant after two doses.
‘This is good news for primary care, as we can be confident in advising patients of the benefits they will receive from the vaccines,’ says HealthPathways Clinical Editor Dr Sarah Mollard.
‘The study showed that the second dose was critical to achieving high levels of protection from symptomatic disease, regardless of the vaccine used. Encouraging patients to book their second dose and ensuring recall systems are functioning well is important to make sure patients get the full benefit from the vaccination program.’
Details of the study are available from the New England Journal of Medicine.
