In a move to integrate consumer feedback into healthcare policy, representatives from the Department of Health and Aged Care recently visited Coffs Medical Centre.
This visit came on the back of the Coffs Medical Centre’s successful launch of a cardiovascular disease prevention clinic in July 2022. The nurse-led initiative has been praised for its innovative approach to improving cardiovascular health outcomes in the Mid North Coast region.
The visit aimed to place consumer voices at the heart of policy design, gather expert feedback to inform the review of existing general practice incentives, and understand the practical experiences and challenges faced by healthcare providers.
Mandy Harrison, Practice Manager at Coffs Medical Centre, emphasised the importance of regional representation in policy discussions:
“Having a voice from the Mid North Coast is crucial,” she said. “Our region has unique challenges and need, this visit by the Department of Health and Aged Care is a positive step towards ensuring our community’s experiences and insights are heard.”
Healthy North Coast continues to advocate for improved efficiency and effectiveness of health services, particularly for those at risk of poor health outcomes. Their ongoing efforts focus on enhancing the coordination of health services and increasing access to quality support, ensuring that the needs of the community are met comprehensively.
The Department’s visit to Coffs Medical Centre highlights a commitment to collaborative healthcare development, ensuring that policies are well-informed by on-the-ground experiences and geared towards the betterment of community health outcomes.
