For the past two years, team members from the Green Team at the Coffs Harbour Aboriginal Land Council have completed First Aid training organised by the Aboriginal Health Team at North Coast Primary Health Network (NCPHN). Members from the Green team completed the most recent course late last year.
The First Aid course gives participants the knowledge, skills and confidence to help a sick or injured person until emergency help arrives. This basic one-day First Aid course is the standard training recommended for first responders in the workplace.
The team learnt how to follow the DRSABCD resuscitation action plan as well as how to use a defibrillator. Pulse Start Training also showed the team how to treat asthma, anaphylaxis and the management of various injuries and illnesses, bites and stings and poisons. They also learned how to treat head, neck and spinal injuries, chest and abdominal injuries and facial and eye injuries.
As well as completing the course and receiving their certificates, NCPHN provided the Green team with a First Aid kit for their work vehicle.
Working in Bush Regeneration means the team sometimes works in remote areas, hours from medical assistance. Having the right training and an up to date First Aid Kit available means they can offer vital help to team members while waiting for medical help to arrive.
