On Wednesday 16 February, the Clarence Valley Clinical Society will discuss trauma-informed care. Attend this event for your chance to win a $50 Clarence Valley gift card.
Trauma-informed care involves a broad understanding of traumatic stress reactions and common responses to trauma. Providers of care need to understand how trauma can affect treatment presentation, engagement, and the outcome of behavioural health services.
Trauma is a normal reaction to an abnormal event. Most people who experience trauma will have a stress reaction of some kind. This clinical society meeting (delivered online for COVID-safety) will help you to recognise these reactions so that you can help people manage their trauma.

What to expect
This online clinical society meeting will focus on the ways in which clinicians can use the principles of trauma-informed care in a variety of settings.
Using a case study, we will explore trauma-informed care in an AOD setting and how to make the principles flexible for your needs.
We’ll then open up the meeting to hear from local services about referral options, local interventions and online resources that can help you to support a person to re-build their strength and wellbeing in a trauma-informed way.
Speakers
Lisa Thorpy, Service Development Coordinator Trauma-Informed Practice and Cultural Change, Northern NSW Local Health District.
Kate Willock, Clinical Nurse Consultant Drug and Alcohol, Northern NSW Local Health District.
Facilitated by Kathy Butcher, Music Therapist at Heart Sounds Music Therapy, Grafton.
The discussion will be supported by local services working in trauma-informed care in the Clarence region, including the New School of Arts Neighbourhood Centre, Footprints to Wellbeing (The Buttery) and Resilient Clarence.
