From December 2017, eReporting has become the method for Mandatory Reporting of children and young people at risk of harm. Faxed reports will not be accepted after March 30, 2018.
NSW Health reporters, including GPs and practice nurses, need make online mandatory reports via the ChildStory Reporter Community. In order to do this the following steps need to be followed:
- The reporters practice must first register by contacting the ChildStory support team by email ([email protected]) or phone 1300‑356‑
- Once the practice is registered the individual reporter must then register with ChildStory ReEdit postporter Community, prior to making a report.

If you are concerned that a child or young person may be at risk of harm, consult the Mandatory Reporter Guide (MRG). The MRG will assess the level of risk and suggest one of the following options:
- Contact the Child Protection Helpline
– Phone the helpline on 132–111 (24-hour helpline).
– Fax the Child Protection Helpline on 1800-212-936 (available until March 30, 2018). Faxed reports can be made using medical software letter writer.
- eReporting (via the ChildStory Reporter Community). Contact the Health Child Wellbeing Unit on 1300-480-420. This service can also identify whether a case meets the statutory threshold of risk of significant harm.
- Contact the Family Referral Service on 1800‑758‑589
