Nearly 75% of patients with hepatitis C remain uncured, and general practice is the first choice for treatment access. The new ‘C Change – Curing hep C‘ brochure provides patients with valuable information around treatment choices.
Irrespective of how patients may have contracted hepatitis C (pre-1990 transfusions and blood products, drug use, tattoos), most pre-cirrhotic patients are good candidates for GP treatment and cure.
Direct-acting antiviral (DAA) medications are covered under the PBS and:
- Cure 95%+ of patients
- Have minor side effects
- Require just 8-12 weeks of oral meds
- Now require no on-treatment monitoring
Most regions of NSW are underachieving the hepatitis C elimination targets. Hepatitis NSW urges general practices to help support roll out of hepatitis C cures.
Free supplies of the ‘C Change’ brochure are available across NSW.
