Healthy North Coast recently teamed up with Primary Care Innovations for a regional roadshow, giving residential aged care homes a sneak peek at the new Building Nurse Capacity education program.
Sessions led by Vanessa Gee and Kim Poyner helped managers and educators dive into the modules. Experts Aria Health shared how they designed the program’s 13 hands-on modules, all aligned with the new Aged Care Standards and flexibly designed so nurses can ‘choose their own adventure’ based on what they need most.
The education is ideal for graduate nurses and those new to residential aged care or the Australian aged care system. Each module provides a strong foundation supported by curated resources for deeper learning with downloadable PDFs that offer quick-reference summaries for those who need a refresher.
Kim also introduced plans for Train the Trainer sessions in 2026, that will equip clinical educators with tools for effective facilitation. Vanessa Gee shared additional supports from Healthy North Coast and listened to challenges faced by RACHs in the region.
Feedback was very positive, with attendees appreciating the research behind the modules and practical resources. Experienced nurses noted they learned something new or enjoyed refreshing their knowledge. Many valued the chance to connect and discuss their experiences with other RACH clinical managers in their region.
What’s next?
We discussed ways you can bring these modules into your facility. Why not incorporate them into monthly staff meetings? Embed them into your induction programs, or host refreshers throughout the year.
These resources build confidence, support high-quality care, and empower nurses to communicate effectively with families and health professionals, creating stronger collaboration across care teams.
