Healthy North Coast invites GPs and Registered Nurses to learn more about complex wound management at a free online Wound Busters webinar.
The online clinic, run by Cheryl Frank and Dr Stephen Yelland, should be of great interest to those working in primary care, community and aged settings.
The Northern NSW Nurse Network and Mid North Coast Nurse Network are hosting two evening webinars.
Each session will feature a video presentation with hands-on practise on real patients. There will be a panel Q&A discussion and also updates on:
- Complex pressure injury treatments.
- Therapeutic guidelines and wound management item numbers.
The webinars are being held during Wound Awareness Week, which runs from 17 – 23 August. Every year, more than 420,000 Australians suffer from a chronic wound, impacting the health and aged care budgets by more than $3 billion.
Treatment can cost individual sufferers thousands of dollars annually. Chronic wounds damage mental health and stop people from working, studying and enjoying the lifestyle others take for granted.
Healthy North Coast’s Nurse Educator Lissa Ingram said attendees would enhance their understanding of:
- Assessing and managing complex wounds and comorbidities.
- Management of venous ulcers and use of compression therapy.
- Partnering with patients and multidisciplinary teams to achieve wound healing.
- The HealthPathways website – local supports and contemporary practice in wound care.
- Wound management MBS item numbers.
“We’ve got the experts in their field who will be presenting,” Ms Ingram said. “Just as important is knowing the local experts and networks, who they are and where to find them.
“Ultimately it’s the people of the North Coast who will benefit from this enhanced wound care knowledge and the sharing of information and resources.”
The webinars will be delivered via Microsoft Teams. A link to join the online event will be emailed upon registering.
