The Queensland border will be closed to all NSW and ACT residents from 1am on Saturday 8 August. Both states have been declared ‘hotspots’ by Queensland’s Chief Health Officer.
The Queensland Government has released its Border Restrictions Direction (No. 11), which will affect all persons who arrive in Queensland from a place outside of Queensland. From tomorrow, residents of NSW and the ACT will not be allowed to enter Queensland. However, there are some exemptions including border residents and those requiring medical care in Queensland.
The direction states that a person who has been in a COVID-19 hotspot in the 14 days prior to entering Queensland must not enter Queensland unless:
- The person is entering Queensland to obtain specialist health care, or as a support person to a person obtaining specialist health care, that cannot be obtained at their place of residence and provides evidence of the time and place in Queensland that the specialist health care is to be provided.
Example – a parent bringing a child for specialist treatment at the Queensland Children’s Hospital will need to provide evidence of the specialist appointment such as a letter from the hospital.
Border residents are permitted to enter Queensland, but must remain in a designated border zone. Check this map of border zones.
