Heart Week is Australia’s national heart health awareness week, providing an opportunity for health professionals to raise awareness about the importance of heart health and deliver Heart Health Checks for at-risk Australians.
This Heart Week (2–8 May), Bangalow Medical Centre covered the practice in red hearts and balloons, and the team wore red t-shirts to create awareness of Heart Week to their local community. It was a breath of fresh air for the team to take a step outside of COVID-19 and focus on preventative health.
The week was about creating awareness, and collecting EOIs from their patients to have a Heart Health Check at a clinic they will be running at the practice in late June. The team had a high uptake, with approximately 50 patients signing up to attend the clinic in June.
Sharon Rudgley, Practice Manager, Bangalow Medical Centre:
‘Here at Bangalow Medical Centre we had an amazing response to Heart Health Week, with positive patient engagement, lots of bookings for heart health checks and a lot of awareness in our local community, and the staff had loads of fun dressing up in red t-shirts, decorating the waiting room with red hearts everywhere, and dealing with a few worried male patients thinking they had missed Valentine’s Day!’
‘With one Australian having a heart attack or stroke every 4 minutes, you have the power to change this statistic.’ Heart Foundation.
