The Ashby community north of Grafton is benefiting from the creation of a botanical nature discovery trail, following the devastating bushfires of 2019–20.
Healthy North Coast helped fund the new reserve with a grant to the Ashby Community Centre and Public Reserve under the Australian Government’s ‘Supporting Communities in Bushfire Recovery’ scheme.
The scheme aims to help build social connection, mental wellbeing and resilience in communities affected by the bushfires.
The discovery trail has been created in the overgrown, unused areas of the Ashby Hall Reserve. Volunteers have regenerated the bush with native species and built a nature trail through the reserve.
Members of the Ashby Nature Discovery team and the Clarence Valley Koala Working Group recently enjoyed a walk along the new trail, with guest speakers and morning tea afterwards.
