Every year, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day. The event raises awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and thanks voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts.
A blood service that gives patients access to safe blood and blood products in sufficient quantity is a critical component of an effective health system.
This year’s theme is 20 years of celebrating giving: thank you blood donors!
World Blood Donor Day in Australia falls within National Blood Donor Week (10-16 June 2024).
Did you know?
- Fewer than one in 30 people donate blood in Australia
- Yet one in 3 of us will need it during our lives
So, this week and every week of the year, thank you, blood donors!
