Information on the benefits of My Health Record will be available at the Slice of Haven Food & Wine Festival in Laurieton on Sunday 27 May 2018.
North Coast Primary Health Network staff will be encouraging festival goers to see how the My Health Record program works and how individuals can use it to their own advantage while they taste and sample the delights of the region.
My Health Record is an individual’s safe and secure digital health information, easily accessible by doctors, specialists, and hospitals. All Australians will have a My Health Record by the end of 2018 unless they choose not to.
Amanda Wilkinson, NCPHN’s My Health Record Program Manager, said, “Ultimately the benefit to North Coast residents will mean that once it’s set up you don’t need to do anything. Health information can be viewed securely online, anywhere, anytime – even if you move or travel interstate. You can access your health information from any computer or device that’s connected to the internet.”
“When you’re visiting a GP for a check-up, we encourage you to ask them to upload a personal health summary. This is helpful for instances where, if going to another doctor like a specialist, or in an emergency room following an accident and are unable to talk, healthcare providers involved in your care can access a summary of your important health information, including allergies, medicines you are taking, medical conditions you have been diagnosed with and pathology results like blood tests.”
“As more people use the My Health Record system, Australia’ national health system will become better connected. This will result in faster and more efficient care for you and your family,” said Mrs Wilkinson.
The major benefits of this personalised online health summary are:
“Having a My Health Record can help you keep track of your own health history and reduce the need to “repeat your health story” every time you see a doctor,” Mrs Wilkinson explained.
Australian Digital Health Agency CEO Tim Kelsey said the expansion of My Health Record nationally this year will deliver a system that provides universal functionality, clear and concise content and, critically, a safe and secure clinical health service for all Australians.
“My Health Record can reduce the risk of medical misadventures by providing treating clinicians with up-to-date information.”
“The benefits of digital health for patients are significant and compelling. Digital health can improve and help save lives,” Mr Wilkinson said.
