Pictured L-R: Owners of Woodburn Health Amanda Moss, Kelly Towns and Dr Louise Wagner.
Yesterday, we were privileged to attend the official opening of Woodburn Health, marking an important occasion for health care access in the town of Woodburn, NSW.
Amanda Moss, Practice Nurse and one of the three owners at the new practice – along with Practice Manager Kelly Towns and Dr Louise Wagner – gave a stirring speech acknowledging the hard work that was put in by many to get the centre up and running in a short time frame. This included tradies working until 10pm on many days, including Amanda’s husband Ben.
Woodburn Health’s business name is actually ‘Garihma’, a Bundjalung word, meaning ‘to care for.’ This is the vision of the practice – to care for staff, patients and the wider community.
We also heard from Luke Elias, Director Primary Health Programs and Partnerships at Healthy North Coast, who outlined some of the unique health challenges that the North Coast region of NSW is facing:
“It makes places like this even more important. Places that support health and wellbeing.”
Woodburn Health has been designed with room for growth. Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology will be moving in shortly, with the aim of more allied health services to be located there in the near future.
Woodburn had previously been without a local GP since 2014, with the devastating floods of 2022 placing further strain on the health needs of the community. Woodburn Health now offers access to three doctors, who can be booked through Hotdoc.
