As you by now know, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will be available in the North Coast Primary Health Network (NCPHN) footprint as of July 2017. A person meeting access requirements, however, can become a participant of the NDIS as of now.
To become an NDIS participant, an individual must:
Rollout
Over the next three years, the NDIS will be significantly expanded. By 2020, it is expected that more than 460,000 people will have entered the Scheme and that annual spending will reach around $22 billion. With this in mind, we strongly encourage you to learn more about how the NDIS will roll out in your area. It’s important to note that rollout does vary across Australia.
NCPHN will be hosting an information session on the National Disability Insurance Scheme in Coffs Harbour on May 29. If you would like to stay informed with the latest details of this event, or if you have something to share on the NDIS, please get in touch with Bronwyn on [email protected].
Across the country, other events by the NDIS and its partners are held regularly. The Every Australian Counts team are currently making their way through the North Coast presenting NDIS information forums. Click here to view dates.
Health professionals are an important source of information for people with disabilities and it’s crucial that you are ready to assist them in joining the NDIS when it becomes available.

The Scheme
The NDIS is one of the largest social policy reforms in Australia’s history. It provides people with individualised support and flexibility to manage their supports to help them achieve their goals and enjoy an ordinary life. The NDIS replaces a disability system that was unfair and inefficient with a new, national system that is world-leading, equitable and sustainable. The NDIS will also provide people with disability, their family and carers with information and referrals to existing support services in the community.
