Bowraville, Dorrigo and Yamba – get ready, the Breast Screen NSW mobile unit will soon be visiting your area.
GPs and practice nurses play an important role in providing support and encouragement to women to attend, and continue to participate in the BreastScreen program. Although referral is not essential for participation in the program, research undertaken by BreastScreen NSW identified that GPs have a significant influence in a woman’s decision to screen, with women more likely to have a mammogram if advised by their GP than by anyone else.
Having two-yearly screening mammograms through BreastScreen is currently the most effective way to detect breast cancer early in asymptomatic women aged 50-74 in a population based screening program. BreastScreen Australia continues to evaluate all emerging evidence for breast density and will provide up-to-date evidence-based information for Australian women as it becomes available.
Call 13 20 50Â to book your free screening mammogram today.
