All Australians are encouraged to take to heart the benefits of using the My Health Record during Heart Week 29 April – 5 May 2018.
My Health Record is an individual’s safe and secure digital health information, currently accessible by many GPs, pharmacies and hospitals. All Australians will receive one by the end of 2018 – unless they decide to opt out.
While heart disease is the single biggest killer of Australians, My Health Record is the key to having a summary of your medical information readily available in the case of an emergency situation.
“After my heart attack, I moved to Melbourne from Mackay. My Health Record was very helpful and I referred to it when consulting my GP, new cardiologist, and even my psychologist,” said Nick Morton, a belt splicer and father who recently saw the advantages in action.
Regular follow-ups with doctors and cardiologists are important after a heart attack. My Health Record provides a great resource for monitoring risk factors including blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes markers though the provision of pathology reports.
The medicines view in My Health Record provides a simple way to track prescriptions prescribed and dispensed. The individual notes section allows individuals to create their own notes relating to physical exercise and health eating strategies.
You can get more information or register now for a My Health Record by going to myhealthrecord.gov.au or phoning free call 1800 723 471.
