Healthy North Coast has undertaken an evaluation of suicide prevention activities across local sites. Our report is now available (PDF).
The Australian Government has outlined a range of suicide prevention reforms to reduce the prevalence of suicide.
Key among the reform is the investment in the National Suicide Prevention Trial, which is taking place in 12 Australian regions.
The Department of Health has funded Healthy North Coast, through the PHN Program, to develop and implement a systems-based approach to suicide prevention at a local level for at-risk populations.
The North Coast trial adopted the Black Dog Institute’s Lifespan model to guide our work. The Lifespan model is a comprehensive systems approach to suicide prevention. It comprises 9 evidence-informed strategies and a community-led implementation and service delivery approach.
Five sites have been selected across the North Coast: Tweed/Byron, Lismore, the Clarence Valley, Bellingen and Kempsey, with five community-based organisations commissioned to lead the activity.
A range of training and activities has been delivered across the regions to date. Our evaluation report aims to inform future suicide prevention investment.
