The Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS) is calling for applications from doctors wishing to undertake GP fellowship training, starting in 2019.
RVTS is a training program for medical practitioners in remote and isolated communities throughout rural and remote Australia.The purpose of the program is to train doctors in remote communities for remote communities. The training provided meets the requirements for Fellowship of both ACRRM and RACGP.
The third round of recruitment opened on 5 November 2018, with places available in the remote stream and AMS stream, established specifically for doctors working in Aboriginal Medical Services.
Applications close on 16 November 2018.
The three to four-year program delivers structured distance education and supervision to doctors while they continue to provide general medical services to a remote and/or isolated community.
The goals of the program are:
- To facilitate access to vocational training by all doctors across Australia.
- To contribute to the recruitment and retention of rural and remote doctors.
- To improve the quality of services available to remote communities by enabling access to vocational training and ensuring continuity of medical services.
