The Queensland Government has eased border restrictions related to COVID-19 this week.
People from all parts of NSW are now able to enter Queensland, excluding anyone who has been in the 32 Sydney local government areas identified as hotspots in the last 14 days. Border closures to Victoria remain in place.
As part of this week’s changes, the Queensland Government has removed the border zone, or ‘border bubble’. Other changes include:
- Children under the age of 12 are no longer required to wear a face mask.
- People can transfer through a hotspot by road as long as they stop only for essential fuel, supplies and to manage driver fatigue. They must also wear a mask when stopping and not stay overnight in a hotspot.
- People can fly to Queensland from Sydney Airport.
Drivers entering Queensland by road will need a border pass called a ‘G’ pass, which you can apply for online. The new passes are valid for 14 days. Previously issued border passes that are still valid will be honoured until their expiration date.
Essential health care
You can enter Queensland from a hotspot for essential health care without an exemption when the health care cannot be provided in the hotspot.
People entering Queensland under these conditions must comply with quarantine requirements. If you are admitted to a hospital or other facility you will be able to quarantine at the facility. Otherwise, you will need to quarantine at a hotel at your own expense.
