In response to increasing COVID-19 case numbers, the NSW Government has reintroduced restrictions for the holidays, including an indoor mask mandate and compulsory QR check-ins.
From 24 December, all people in NSW over the age of 12 are required to wear a face mask:
- in an indoor area other than a place of residence
- in an indoor area on common property for residential premises
- at a public transport waiting area
- in a vehicle or vessel being used to provide a public transport service
- working at a hospitality venue and dealing directly with members of the public
- on a domestic commercial aircraft, including when the aircraft is flying above NSW.
For the full list of mask rules and exemptions, visit NSW Health.
How to wear a mask correctly
Your mask must cover your nose and mouth – wearing it improperly will not be effective.
Your mask should fit securely around your face (that is snugly under your chin, over the bridge of your nose and against the sides of your face).
Please remember that a mask is not a substitute for physical distancing.
Masks are a ‘fourth line of defence’ after:
- getting tested if unwell, then staying home
- maintaining 1.5-metre physical distancing
- practising good hand hygiene.
If you have symptoms, you should get tested for COVID-19 immediately, then self-isolate. Symptoms include fever, cough, headache, runny nose and shortness of breath.
