Last week, the North Coast health workforce presented a range of local programs to seven international experts as part of the Transformers II Special Event Series. Scholars travelled from Scotland, England, Germany, New Zealand and the U.S. in what was a significant step on the journey to improving healthcare on the North Coast.
More than 350 clinicians, community members and health professionals come together to explore the necessary steps in transforming the healthcare system.
“I am very pleased that the Transformers Special Event Series is becoming a recognised annual event for the North Coast,” said Dr Vahid Saberi, Chief Executive, NCPHN.
“We need to continually grow and adjust what we are doing in healthcare for the community and compare our work with the best international evidence. Having seven internationally recognised experts travel to the North Coast to be our ‘critical friends’ has given us many improvement ideas that will take our health system a step further. I look forward to Transformers III in 2018 and hope that more community members get involved and attend.”
Already there have been positive movements on programs discussed at Transformers II.
The intensive three-day program explored how the “Healthy Towns” movement can benefit the North Coast and focused on the engagement and empowerment of people. Discussions were held around the impact of social determinants of health and the need for narratives and stories that turn patients into people and care into better care.
Local programs critiqued by the international panel included the Northern NSW Health Literacy Program, the LinkMe Mental Health Program, and the North Coast’s own, recently implemented, Healthy Towns Program.
“It was interesting hearing about the different programs and services currently offered by a diversified health system. Many of these programs are wonderful and are now talking to each other thanks to Transformers II,” said Dr Nick Goodwin, Co-Founder of the International Foundation for Integrated Care (IFIC).
PollEverywhere captured people’s thoughts on the special event series:
“Transformers is the opportunity to discuss and review projects early on instead of waiting for formal evaluations. Information NOW people!”
“Everyone who attended is walking away with at least one new tool to help them advance their health service.”
“Excellent. I really enjoyed everything. Especially the venue which was small enough to meet all the presenters and others.”
