The Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) is researching the experiences of women with a physical disability who participate in self-collected cervical screening.
The NNSWLHD is inviting GPs to refer eligible patients to take part in the study. The project includes focus groups with women’s health nurses to determine their perspectives on the topic, including perceived barriers to screening.
The study will be conducted in the NNSWLHD’s Women’s Health Clinics, as well as in the homes of women who are unable to attend a clinic.
To be eligible, participants should be a woman or person with a cervix, aged 25-74, speak English, have a physical disability, be due for cervical screening, and opt to self-collect their cervical screening test.
Participation in the study is voluntary and written consent will be obtained. All interview data will remain confidential and identifying information will be removed from the dataset before analysis.
Participants will have the opportunity to review or edit their responses before data analysis, will not be identified in reports or publications, and may withdraw from the study at any time.
All patients who attend the NNSWLHD Women’s Health Clinics will be advised their cervical screening results will be forwarded to their GP, unless they opt out.
The project has Research Ethics Governance Information System approval.
