Occupational Therapy Australia (OTA) has launched a series of free consumer eBooks as part of Occupational Therapy Week (21-27 October 2018).
OTA is the national professional association representing occupational therapy in Australia. They offer opportunities for members to enhance best practice through professional development, support and access to profession-specific information.
The e-books build on previous efforts to raise the profile of occupational therapy within the community, which included the launch of a consumer website during OT Week 2017.
The eBooks provide useful advice for consumers about how occupational therapy can help them, and address common issues faced by members of the community. They are easy to read and include references to evidence-based literature. The eBooks have been authored by occupational therapists and carer peer workers who generously volunteered their time.
The following e-books have been developed:
• Helping you to live until you die – A guide for people with a life-limiting illness, their family and friends.
• Supporting Me – A Teenager Identifying as a Transgender Person.
• Self-Care for Carers – The importance of taking great care of yourself when looking after others.
• The Road Ahead – A guide to occupational therapy driving assessments.
OTA will be developing further eBooks as part of the series on topics including assistive technology and the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
All eBooks are free to access and are available from OTA’s consumer website.
