What a month October was for Healthy Towns in Lake Cathie! Our Mental Health Month event brought the community together, and a new partnership will allow us to fulfil a long held community request.
Community Health & Wellbeing Day at Lake Cathie Foreshore
On the 9th October Healthy Towns partnered with the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program to host a community event for Lake Cathie residents.
The Lake Cathie Health & Wellbeing Day showcased 15 stall holders, who provided information about local services, while Lake Cathie pharmacy provided free health checks. The Lake Cathie Rural Fire Brigade volunteered their time to cook up 200 health sliders and also took part in a Make Healthy Normal cooking competition judged by Mayor Peta Pinson. The Mid North Coast Local Health District oversaw the cooking competition and also brought along a smoothie bike and pedalled up some delicious banana smoothies. For the kids, a face painter was on hand to create an array of creatures and the Go4Fun team facilitated games of soccer and football on the beach. Tunes throughout the day were provided by our local Ukelele band CHUMs.
It was a wonderful day, full of community spirit and information sharing. Hopefully it’s just the beginning for community events in Lake Cathie.
Lake Cathie Community Noticeboard
Healthy Towns has recently joined forces with Woolworths Lake Cathie to progress plans for a much needed and requested community noticeboard. The noticeboard will be located within the supermarket and have space for locals to advertise events and notices. It will also feature exciting community news and updates.
Stay tuned for more news on the instalment of the noticeboard.
Social Connection Working Group
At our community action planning workshops, the community identified the importance of feeling connected, having a sense of belonging and being able to actively participate in community life.
The social connection working group plans to address these needs. The group will be coming together to co-design several community initiatives; a community garden, utilisation of the community hall and the establishment of a community placemaker. The first meeting to progress these initiatives will be on 26th November.
If you are interested in joining the working group, please contact Romayne Page on [email protected] or 0428 373 669.
What’s next?
We are now moving into the co-design phase of Healthy Towns in Lake Cathie. Working groups will be formed to help progress shortlisted initiatives. The next meeting for the Local Advisory Group is on 19th November.
