Scheduling changes for nicotine vaping products will take effect from 1 October 2021.
From that date, a prescription will be required for Australians to legally access nicotine e-cigarettes and nicotine vaping products for any purpose, including importing from overseas online retailers.
Under the new arrangements, prescribers will be able to seek authorisation from the Therapeutic Goods Administration to be authorised prescribers for a group of patients, or apply to the Special Access Scheme for approval for individual patients.
An article, a flow chart summarising the pathways for access, and two podcasts are now available from NPS MedicineWise to help prescribing GPs prepare for the scheduling change.
