On Wednesday 18 March 2026, headspace Coffs Harbour welcomed a visit from Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, the Hon Emma McBride MP, Monika Wheeler, CEO and Aimee McNeill, Director of Integrated Community Wellbeing at Healthy North Coast to see firsthand how recent funding is improving access to youth mental health services and enhancing the centre’s facilities.
The visit focused on the headspace Demand Management and Enhancement Program, which has recently supported the refurbishment of the waiting area to create a more welcoming and youth-friendly space.
During the visit, Assistant Minister McBride met with staff, toured the centre and discussed how targeted funding for at other headspace centres is helping services respond to growing demand for timely, accessible mental health support for young people aged 12 to 25.
headspace Coffs Harbour provides free and confidential mental health, physical health, alcohol and other drug, and work and study support for young people across the Coffs Coast.
Demand for services has continued to increase, reflecting broader pressures on youth mental health services in regional communities.
“The Demand Management and Enhancement Program funding allowed us to improve our physical environment so young people feel comfortable and supported from the moment they walk through the door.” Sharna Waugh, Centre Manager said.
The refurbished waiting area is designed to provide a calmer, more inclusive space for young people and families while they wait for appointments, supporting a positive first point of contact with the service.
headspace Coffs Harbour is delivered locally by Health Voyage and is part of the national headspace network. headspace Coffs Harbour is funded by Healthy North Coast through the North Coast PHN Program.
