A group of new medical students and GP Registrars were recently given a special welcome to the North Coast!
Workforce Development, HealthPathways and Primary Health Coordinators from Healthy North Coast visited third-year Charles Sturt University Medical Students at their Port Macquarie Campus on 31 January to give them a huge welcome to the region and discuss programs and opportunities that may support them both now and into the future.
An overview of HealthPathways was provided to the students, showcasing its value and how it can be used in everyday practice.
Our Workforce Development Team then hosted the RACGP GP Registrar welcome dinner at Pacific Bay Resort on 7 February.
41 first-year RACGP GP Registrars were formally welcomed on the evening by Luke Elias (Healthy North Coast), Dr Rashmi Sharma (RACGP and Board member at Healthy North Coast), and Dr Adrian Gilliland (Chair of Healthy North Coast’s Board).
Dr Gilliland presented two lucky door prizes to a local restaurant, and Healthy North Coast had an opportunity to meet the Registrars socially and talk to them about their interests, Healthy North Coast programs and education opportunities.
There is a total of 144 RACGP GP Registrars currently training in general practice on the Mid and North Coast.
The HealthPathways team provided a brief overview of the benefits of the localised HealthPathways on day 2 of the training, with most of the Registrars expressing familiarity with the website and accessing it regularly in day-to-day practice.
Both events are the first of many to support the engagement of our future GP workforce. RACGP and CSU are among several key stakeholders that our Workforce Development Team collaborate with regularly. Future strategies to attract and retain local GPs to the region is a key priority.
