Make sure you update the National Health Services Directory (NHSD) for the Summer holiday season

This summer we can support our community and visitors to access the right care, at the right place, at the right time.

Practices are encouraged to update their operational hours and after hours support information on the National Health Services Directory (NHSD) for the summer holiday season. This information is crucial for our local communities, visitors to our area and other health services like hospital and emergency staff.

Follow these steps to update the NHSD:

  • Visit the NHSD at nhsd.com.au
  • Select your service type from the available options
  • Enter your suburb or post code
  • Click on ‘search’
  • From the list of results, select your listing
  • Review the information and click on the red ‘Report an error’ button
  • Detail the changes required to your listing and click ‘send’

After you have updated your listing the NHSD Team will receive your query and may contact you for more information. You will then receive a completion notice. We also suggest you visit the NHSD to check your updates.

Here is some example wording if you want to revise your NHSD listing holiday hours and after hours arrangements information:

“Visitors Welcome. Walk-ins accepted. Closed Sunday and Public Holidays. The practice is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. After hours arrangements: Call “Medical Deputising Service” on ph. XXX XXX.”

“Practice Patients Only. Closed Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays. Closed for two weeks at Christmas/ New Year. After hours arrangements: When the practice is closed, a message on the practice answering machine will advise you of the rostered doctor’s mobile number to call for all after-hours care. This service is only available for existing patients. Please dial XXXX XXXX.”
