Macksville Hospital’s maternity service has commenced a Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) model of care. This enables women to be cared for and supported by a small group of midwives throughout the pregnancy, birth and early postnatal period at home.
The MGP model of care is for women with normal risk pregnancy. MGP midwives will offer pregnancy, labour and birth and postnatal home visiting services to all women who are safe to birth at Macksville.
With the introduction of the midwifery home visiting service, women from Bellingen, Raleigh, Urunga, Stuarts Point and Eungai who birth at Coffs Harbour and Macksville will now have access to postnatal home visits from a midwife.
A Maternity Antenatal and Postnatal Service (MAPs) is available for women with identified risks who will have a planned birth at Coffs Harbour. It is run by a Macksville obstetrician and midwives.
