- Dr Tony Lembke (Grafton)
NCPHN has funded a project led by Dr Abbey Perumpanani, Director of Clinical Programs at the Northern NSW Local Health District, to tackle this problem starting with acute services. Dr Perumpanani recognises that the best way to impact this problem is for the whole clinical team to work together so that strategies are consistent, no matter where the patient encounters the health system. But there are many local barriers to this happening.
GPs, pharmacists, practice nurses and other interested primary care clinicians are invited to join colleagues from the hospital sector to strategise on approaches to stem the rising use of opioids, including alternative opioid use, cease-and-wean plans and other de-prescribing strategies. The workshop is a rare opportunity to come together as a group of colleagues to discuss local barriers, local pain services and pathways to better management.
The format of the evening will include a facilitated case study, with input from the panel and professionals in the audience. RACGP Category 2 points have been approved.
