On Tuesday 1 March, the Lismore, Casino & Kyogle Clinical Society will meet online to discuss drug and substance use.
As voted by Lismore, Casino & Kyogle Clinical Society members, drug and substance use is one of the most serious health concerns in the local region. This is consistent with the 2018 Local Health Needs Community Survey, of which drug and alcohol misuse was listed as the number one health concern.
Substance misuse is considered a lifestyle behaviour with damaging health and social consequences. The use of the term ‘lifestyle’ is somewhat misleading, however, as the evidence indicates a strong relationship with social markers of disadvantage, including unemployment, homelessness and poverty, social isolation and traumatic experience. Substance misuse may accompany other mental health issues.
This Lismore, Casino and Kyogle Clinical Society meeting will focus on the way in which clinicians can recognise addictions and contributing factors to addiction. Learn more about local drug usage and clinical cues and screening, examine local referral options, and discover what ‘not to do’ in your clinical work regarding drug and substance use.
