The North Coast region has the lowest childhood vaccination rate in the country and there is a need to improve this.
Practice nurses play a critical role in the safe handling and administration of vaccinations.
Healthy North Coast is offering up to 100 scholarships for immunisation nurses (including those working in residential aged care homes) to undertake the Understanding Vaccines and the National Immunisation Program (HESA accredited) through SA Health.
This is an online course that runs for 20 weeks and aims to equip health professionals with knowledge and skills to competently deliver a high quality and safe immunisation service.
The course has been developed by immunisation and education experts from the Communicable Disease Control Branch (CDCB), Department for Health and Wellbeing, South Australia, WA Health and the Education and Training Department of the Women and Children’s Hospital, Adelaide, South Australia.
This course is highly regarded and is accredited by Health Education Services Australia (HESA) against the National Immunisation Education Framework for Health Professionals.
In addition, we will be running tutorials every Friday afternoon (1.5 hours) for those nurses undertaking the course who might have questions or require assistance to complete.
These tutorials will be facilitated by Carolyn Lloyd, Immunisation Coordinator from North Coast Population and Public Health Directorate.
