McLachlan Park in Maclean was the site of the Healthy Towns Community Fun Day on Tuesday 30 October. More than 200 community members came along to learn about local services and activities.
The day was co-ordinated by North Coast Primary Health Network (NCPHN), in partnership with Our Healthy Clarence, Maclean Community Health and the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program.
The relaxed atmosphere along the Clarence River set the scene for a day of learning and sharing. There was information on hand for all life stages, from birth to aged care. Maclean TAFE kept things interactive with a pair of virtual reality goggles to try. Community health staff provided free blood pressure checks while the Maclean CWA upheld their reputation for the best preserves and jams. Also in attendance were My Health Record, the National Disability Insurance Scheme, Solid Mob, New Horizons, OTCP, Cranes, The Buttery, Social Futures, Caringa, Centrelink and Clarence Care and Support.
In true Maclean spirit, the entertainment came with a touch of Scottish flair: bagpipes. Piper Alistair Wallace delighted the crowd over the lunch break. Our Healthy Clarence and headspace kept everyone fed with a delicious BBQ lunch.
Event coordinator Carolyn Ardler said: “It was great to see the community enjoying the atmosphere. It was also fantastic to see service providers networking and sharing information to create strong links and referral pathways for the community.”
Throughout the day, the community contributed to the ‘What’s On In Maclean Calendar’. The calendar will be available in print and electronic form for the community to keep and share.
During NCPHN’s Healthy Towns consultations, community members requested more information on local services. This event evolved from that feedback, and was an enjoyable way to find out what’s available and where to go for help if needed.
This was the last event for Mental Health Month and was a wonderful way to close the Mental Health Month Calendar.
