The HealthPathways team has recently updated the Influenza Immunisation HealthPathway with the latest information for 2022.
The pathway stresses the importance of immunisation against influenza and includes links to key advice and information.
‘There’s a concern that with the reopening of international borders, we will see a surge of influenza as the winter flu from the Northern Hemisphere comes to Australia,’ said HealthPathways Clinical Editor Dr Grace Leung.
‘For the past couple of years we’ve had COVID-related border closures, lockdowns, mask wearing, social distancing and other restrictions, which have been good at stopping the influenza virus from setting in.’
Pre-orders for influenza vaccines are now available. The updated pathway recommends COVID-19 and influenza vaccines can be co-administered.
‘When patients come in for either vaccination, it’s a good prompt to remind them to have the other one as well,’ Dr Leung said.
The 2022 influenza vaccines are quadrivalent and designed to protect against four different flu viruses, including two influenza A viruses and two influenza B viruses.
NSW Health’s online Influenza Vaccination Provider Toolkit includes a checklist timeline for vaccination providers.
