GPs with a special interest, expertise or qualification who are prepared to receive patient referrals from colleagues are invited to register their details as part of Healthy North Coast’s new GP to GP Referrals page on HealthPathways.
The resource aims to increase connectivity and collaboration within the local health workforce and give GPs the opportunity to make better use of their skills and specialised knowledge.
HeathPathways Clinical Editor Dr Grace Leung said in the past, local knowledge was relied upon to know who could do what, and who was happy to accept other patients.
‘The new GP to GP Referrals page provides a list of GPs who are happy to receive referrals from other GPs to see patients in their special area of interest,’ Dr Leung said.
‘For example, a GP might need to find someone else to provide S100 prescribing for HIV, or Medical Termination of Pregnancy.
‘The new page aims to make this process simpler and more transparent, providing an up-to-date list of GPs who have registered to accept referrals. It is understood that GPs accepting referrals are only managing their area of interest, and usual GP care will remain the responsibility of the original GP.’
Complete the GP Referral Registration form here on the Healthy North Coast website. There is a free text option on the form that can be used to fill in areas of interest if not already listed.
Included on the GP to GP Referrals page is a framework of principles for the process that covers both the sending and receiving of referrals, as well as the scope of consultations and investigations, and requirements for closing the referral loop.
GPs are encouraged to use the ‘Send feedback’ button at the bottom of the page to assist the HealthPathways team in making continuous improvements to the platform.
