Northcott is excited to announce that FundAbility is back for its final year.
The FundAbility grant program, in collaboration with Northcott and FACS (Family and Community Services), aims to make communities more inclusive for people with disability by providing grants to families, communities, organisations, services and businesses.
This year FundAbility will focus on initiatives that support disability inclusion for adults aged 18 to 64 years. Applications opened on 19 March 2018 and close at 5pm on 24 April 2018. Further details and an application form can be found at Northcott.com.au/FundAbility.
Examples of past successful applicants include a dance teacher from Dubbo who was able to fund AllAbilitiesDanz – an inclusive dance program that brings together everybody, including participants with disability. AllAbilitiesDanz is a type of dance therapy that focuses on each individual’s needs to ensure an inclusive dance environment for all. The classes are designed to allow for participation from a standing position, seated position or even a day bed. Specially choreographed songs focus on improving the movement of all community members and a range of props allow all participants to engage with the AllAbilitiesDanz experience.
Another great story is a café in Sydney using its FundAbility grant for a project which introduced accessible communication methods into the café environment. The funds were used to purchase iPads which were installed with digital menus in both graphics and text, and a variety of languages. Orders can then be sent straight to the customer service team electronically, allowing people with disability to communicate with ease. The café staff also received training on inclusive practices for people with disability. This project allowed the café to break down communication barriers, creating a more inclusive environment for all patrons.
