The Department of Developmental Disability Neuropsychiatry (3DN) at the University of NSW has launched a new course ‘Dementia Care for People with Intellectual Disability’ on its e-learning platform, ID Health Education.
The course is appropriate for GPs and other health professionals and is an enjoyable and effective way to enhance knowledge and skills related to dementia and people with intellectual disability.
The course covers:
- risk factors for dementia and how they apply to people with intellectual disability
- factors that may complicate a dementia assessment
- the key investigations required for the diagnosis of dementia
- dementia care and the services that may be involved
- medical management of dementia in people with intellectual disability
- early planning for future support needs
- promoting healthy ageing in people with intellectual disability.
