If you couldn’t make it to the recent Healthy Communities of Tomorrow event in Ballina, you can now watch online or listen to the keynote speech from ABC Radio National’s Dr Norman Swan.
Dr Swan said there are many factors that affect health outcomes and a person’s life expectancy. One of them is location, which influences income, housing, education, access to health care and more.
Dr Swan said studies have repeatedly shown that one of the key determinants of ongoing good health is feeling a sense of control over your life. When people lose the ability to control aspects of their lives, either through sickness or for other reasons, their ability to make decisions is impacted, which often leads to chronic stress and escalating health issues.
This event was a joint initiative of the Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) and the North Coast Primary Health Network (NCPHN).
