The second round of consultation for the Consensus Statement that came out of the June 2022 Ngayubah Gadan (Coming Together) Summit closes on 12 September.
The purpose of the Summit was to articulate and define the value and importance of investing in rural and remote multidisciplinary health teams with rural generalist expertise to provide high quality care for rural patients and communities.
More than 70 major rural health stakeholders attended the Summit. Stakeholders agreed that teams could make a valuable contribution to building a sustainable health workforce and reducing the health inequities and outcomes that exist between urban and rural communities.
The purpose of the Consensus Statement is to inform policy makers, fundholders, workforce planners, service providers, clinicians and communities on what the rural and remote sector agrees are the key elements of high functioning teams.
The Office of the National Rural Health Commissioner has reviewed and further refined the Consensus Statement based on discussions held during the Summit. Additional to the Consensus Statement, an accompanying document, the Ngayubah Gadan Guiding Paper, has been drafted.
