Nearly 100 workers at Casino Food Co-Op’s Booyong facility were vaccinated against COVID-19 last week.
The day was a collaborative effort between Healthy North Coast, Casino Food Co-Op and Alstonville Clinic and was the first of its type in northern NSW involving industry.
The aim of the onsite Pfizer hub was to boost vaccination rates among staff, at the same time testing the on-site clinic model.
Meat processing workers are deemed a priority under phase 1b of the national vaccine rollout, however many of the Booyong facility’s employees had not received their first dose. Now, more than 80% have had the jab, with follow-up second doses scheduled for late September.
Healthy North Coast Director of Operations and Engagement, Luke Elias, said the hub was a welcome initiative and had been a great success.
Mr Elias said Healthy North Coast would look to expand the program and provide access to other groups identified as higher risk or vulnerable.
He paid tribute to the Alstonville Clinic for its involvement in helping the day to run so smoothly.
