Millions of Australians are now eligible for a COVID-19 booster dose.
The Australian Government has reduced the interval between second dose and booster. From 4 January 2022, people only need to wait four months after their second dose for a booster. This will reduce again on 31 January, to three months.
The booster dose helps make sure the protection from the first and second dose is stronger and longer lasting.
The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are recommended as boosters in Australia.
Who is eligible?
People are eligible for a booster vaccination if they:
- have received 2 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine
- are aged 18 years and over
- received the second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at least 4 months ago.
To check eligibility for a booster, people should visit their vaccination record on myGov or use the MyHealthRecord app to see when their second dose was.
People will need to bring proof of vaccination for dose 1 and 2 to their booster appointment. Accepted proof includes a COVID-19 certificate or immunisation record.
