Healthy North Coast’s first Back to Health Conference is shaping up to be a great three days of learning, networking and focus on preventive health, all on beautiful Gumbaynggirr Country at Pacific Bay Resort Coffs Harbour, from 21 – 23 October.
Registrations close 8pm Tuesday 11 October, but there’s still time to take advantage of the 50% off Back to Health tickets right up to the registration deadline.
Healthy North Coast Acting Chief Executive, Monika Wheeler, said the special offer was in recognition of the dedication and commitment North Coast health professionals have shown during the past two years.
‘We don’t want cost to be a barrier for anyone in attending this conference and we know many businesses and individuals right across the North Coast are doing it tough right now,” Ms Wheeler said.
‘We believe so strongly in this conference that we want to make it as affordable as possible for all health professionals in our region, whether they are just starting out or are well-advanced in their career.
The reduced price should also encourage business owners to sponsor a number of staff to attend as a training opportunity. I’m sure they will bring so much back to the business,’’ Ms Wheeler said.
Local health professionals, Aaron Hardaker and Lee Excell, tell us why they have signed up.
Aaron has signed up as conference attendee and is also a panellist for the breakout session on Allied Health Leadership on Saturday afternoon. Aaron said that a big drawcard for him was his reflection on primary care’s current service delivery model.
So often our policies and services are geared towards reactive healthcare where we are trying to fix a problem, once its already a problem. I am really looking forward to the Back to Health focus on preventative health care,’ Aaron said.
It’s cheaper and better for the community if we focus on how to stop disease, instead of being stuck doing what we’ve always done. Overall, it’s the change the community needs for their health and it’s also a great chance to bring people together.Aaron Hardaker

Lee is attending all three days of the Back to Health Conference, including the Cultural Safety Training and Cultural Experience on Friday 21 October. With more than 25 different health topics covered, Lee said many aspects of the conference had caught her attention.
Definitely the cultural training, as I believe in learning from our First Nations people and discovering more community-minded ways of looking at health and care throughout the lifecycle. I am aware that there is always so much more to learn,’ Lee said.
Lee had also marked out the Saturday panel session, 9:35am — 10:25am, which recognises the value of preventative health services.
These services don't always include a Medicare number, but they are so beneficial towards informing and changing health behaviours for the better,’ said Lee.Lee Excell
