The Lismore Suicide Prevention project was established in late 2018 as part of the Australian Government Department of Health’s National Suicide Prevention Trial. The project is adopting the Black Dog Institute’s LifeSpan model. To incorporate the LifeSpan approach, a number of simultaneous prevention strategies are being introduced across the Lismore area.
One particular LifeSpan strategy is aimed at equipping general practitioners and mental health professionals with the skills to identify and support people at risk of suicide.
There are several training options available. The project is gauging interest in the most relevant and meaningful options by asking the preferences of those working in general practices.
The options include:
