An end of year message from Jeremy Hazell, Regional Officer at Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care:
The Aged Care Act 2024 and the new Support at Home program are now in place, these landmark reforms enshrine the rights of older Australians in law and establish a system designed to provide safe, dignified, and high-quality care for our ageing population.
This milestone reflects years of collaboration and consultation with older people, aged care providers, families, advocates, workers, and nurses across the sector.
On behalf of the Northern NSW Local Network, we sincerely thank our Residential Aged Care Homes and Home Care providers for generously sharing your time and welcoming our team into your facilities over the past year.
Your invaluable insights and local knowledge have helped shape the future of aged care, and we deeply appreciate not only your openness but also your ongoing hard work and unwavering commitment to supporting older Australians – especially during this period of significant change as the Australian Government delivers the most substantial aged care reforms in a generation.
For those providers we haven’t yet had the pleasure of meeting, we look forward to connecting with you soon.
Our Local Network team has greatly valued participating in cross-sector meetings and would like to extend special thanks to Jo Winwood and the Healthy North Coast team for facilitating these important discussions.
Wishing you all a safe and joyful Christmas and New Year.
Best regards,
Jeremy Hazell.
