Recent enhancements to the after hours GP helpline service, which provides access to a GP during the after hours period, support greater continuity of care.
Callers can elect to have:
General Practitioner and member of the Healthdirect Australia Primary Care Clinical Advisory Group, Dr Nathan Pinskier, said the enhancements further the opportunity for Australians to make informed and shared decisions on their healthcare with their regular GP.
“Sharing healthcare information via secure electronic communications supports clinical handover and continuity of care, which leads to better healthcare outcomes,” Dr Pinskier said.
The after hours GP helpline number is 1800 022 222. It is free (on landlines and some mobile phones) and provides consumers with access to a GP for trusted health advice during the after hours period. The helpline is provided on behalf of the Australian Government.
