Media are cordially invited to attend the launch of North Coast Primary Health Network’s (NCPHN’s) Healthy Towns North Coast at Casino and Evans Head on Wednesday 14 March.
Rural communities often have unique strengths and challenges that influence the health and wellbeing of the people who live there. Healthy Towns North Coast is partnering with North Coast communities to design local initiatives to improve health and wellbeing.
Casino and Evans Head were selected to participate based on town characteristics and the findings of the 2017 North Coast Primary Health Network’s Needs Assessment.
“Rural and regional towns have a strong sense of identity and belonging which provides a great platform for working together,” explained Sharyn White, North Coast Primary Health Network’s Acting Chief Executive.
“Research demonstrates that initiatives developed by local people are more successful in improving health and wellbeing outcomes. They also make use of local infrastructure and can improve the way agencies work together for that community,” she added.
NCPHN staff have already begun engaging local residents and services.
A community survey will be launched to build on initial findings. Hard copy surveys will be available. The survey can also be completed online at: www.hnc.org.au/healthy-towns-north-coast
The next step will be Community Action Planning Workshops to be held in Evans Head and Casino during May and June. Residents and service organisations will be presented with findings from the survey and community consultations. Then the process of identifying health and wellbeing priorities and designing local initiatives to address these will begin.
Workshop participants will have a direct say in what initiatives are considered most important. Actions will be led by community members with support from North Coast Primary Health Network.
