Last summer, Bellingen Shire experienced two significant fires. The first was the Bees Nest bushfire, which burnt through 100,000 hectares of bush and destroyed homes in Tyringham and Hernani as well as in neighbouring Clarence Valley towns Billys Creek and Dundurrabin.
OzGREEN’s Youth Leading the World program provides opportunities for participants to engage in interactive and thought-provoking group games and activities. They can also express their concerns about the bushfires as well as other local and global economic, social and environmental challenges.
All of the activities they will participate in will foster friendships, assist healing and recovery, increase wellbeing, build youth resilience and encourage a sense of connection and belonging.
This grant was funded through the North Coast PHN Program and the Australian Government’s ‘Supporting Communities in Bushfire Recovery’ initiative.
