The 2019-20 bushfires impacted the local community residing in and around Mororo, Yargai, Goodwood and Woolbin Islands, Esk River, Gibberagee State Forest, Mororo State Forest and the Bundjalung National Park. Locals faced trauma, isolation and loss of income, property, wild life and habitat, leaving a negative impact on community confidence and subsequent loss of security.
The Woombah Wellness Community Garden Raising Program will include free community workshops, special events, working bees ad outreach programs to local primary schools. These programs will include garden bed building, learn how to make seedlings for planning in the community garden and their own garden, weaving and yarning circle and school children will participate in art workshop to learn how plants and animals will recover from fires. All activities aim to strengthen social connectedness, emotional wellbeing, recovery and healing.
