On 8 November 2019, the Nymboida area was severely and devastatingly affected by a ravaging bushfire. The bushfire destroyed 90 homes and many more outbuildings and sheds. Given Nymboida’s small population, few residents have not lost homes, sheds or livelihoods. Since the bushfires, the community has rallied together to support each other in the recovery process.
This project involves creating 12 mosaic pavers that will encircle a tree planted in the Centre grounds, which will represent a memorial to the effects and aftermath of the bushfires. A series of workshops will be held during the Clarence Valley Camp Oven Festival. Hosting the hands on workshops will allow local residents to share stories and shared experiences while building and supporting friendships and relationships. This project will promote social cohesion and facilitate a sense of connectedness among Nymboida residents.
